Mythral for law firms

AI meeting notes that keep client conversations in the firm.

Dictation and meeting notes that run on the attorney's Mac. No vendor receives the recording, the transcript or the notes, because there is no server to send them to.

Does an AI note-taker put privilege and client consent at risk?

A cloud note-taker sends the conversation to a third party, and bar guidance now says clients must agree to that. Mythral never sends it anywhere. Your firm still decides its own policy; Mythral gives IT the controls to enforce it.

Why cloud note-takers are a problem

Bar guidance now requires client consent.

The New York City Bar says lawyers must get a client's consent before an AI tool records a conversation, and flags the risk to privilege.

Confidential information needs real protection.

The ABA says lawyers need informed client consent before client information goes into AI tools that can learn from it, and that boilerplate engagement-letter language is not enough.

Recording laws are being tested in court.

A class action against Otter.ai claims its note-taker recorded people who never agreed, under California's all-party consent law.

What Mythral does about it

Nothing leaves the Mac

Recognition, notes and dictation run on Apple silicon. Transcripts and kept audio are encrypted on the attorney's Mac.

A consent check before every recording

Turn on MeetingConsentNotice and the attorney confirms everyone has been told before a recording starts.

Kept out of the apps you choose

BlockedApps lists apps where Mythral never listens and never reads the screen.

Retention set by the firm

Delete audio once transcribed, keep transcripts 30 or 90 days, or keep them. Notes export to Word or PDF for the matter file.

The controls your IT team sets

Each is a key in a configuration profile for com.mythral.app. Set it and it is locked on every Mac. See every setting.

MeetingConsentNoticeBefore each recording, the person confirms everyone in the meeting has been told.

meetingAudioRetentionMeeting audio deleted once transcribed, kept 7 days, or kept until the meeting is deleted.

Questions your risk committee will ask

Does Mythral ever see our conversations?

No. There is no Mythral server. Speech recognition, notes and dictation run on the Mac, and transcripts and kept audio are encrypted there with AES-GCM. We never receive your data, so there is nothing for us to store, lose or hand over.

Does using Mythral affect privilege?

We can't give legal advice, and your firm should make its own assessment. What we can say is factual: no third party receives the recording, the transcript or the notes. They stay on the attorney's Mac.

How do we handle consent to record?

Your firm sets the policy. Mythral can enforce a step in it: with MeetingConsentNotice on, every recording starts with the attorney confirming everyone has been told.

Can we keep it out of certain apps?

Yes. BlockedApps names apps where Mythral never dictates and never reads the screen. Password managers and banking apps are always excluded.

How long are recordings kept?

As long as your policy says. Audio can be deleted as soon as it's transcribed, and transcripts after 30 or 90 days, while the notes stay.

Can IT stop it from connecting to the internet?

Yes. With OfflineMode set in your MDM profile, the app makes no connections of its own: no downloads, no update checks. The installer carries every model. Every connection the app can make is listed on the security page.

Does a bot join the call?

No. Mythral listens to the Mac's own audio, so it works with Zoom, Teams, Meet and phone calls without joining anything.

Does it work with Outlook calendars?

Mythral reads meetings from the macOS Calendar app. Add your Microsoft 365, Exchange or Google account in System Settings › Internet Accounts, and meetings arrive with their titles and attendees.
